Service overview
Environmental law in Pakistan provides a legal framework for the protection of the environment, conservation of natural resources, and regulation of pollution and climate-related matters. The foundation of environmental regulation is the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act (PEPA) 1997, which governs pollution control, hazardous substances, environmental approvals, and sustainable development. Following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, provinces enacted their own environmental laws, including the Punjab, Sindh, KPK, and Balochistan Environmental Protection Acts. Under these laws, industries, factories, housing societies, roads, and infrastructure projects are required to obtain environmental approvals through Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) or Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before commencement. Regulatory authorities such as Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and Provincial EPAs are responsible for monitoring compliance, issuing NOCs, and enforcing environmental standards. Environmental laws also address air pollution, water contamination, hazardous waste, deforestation, and climate change challenges. Environmental Protection Tribunals have been established for speedy disposal of environmental disputes and violations. Pakistan further strengthened its climate governance through the Pakistan Climate Change Act 2017, focusing on climate adaptation, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability. Adalat.pk provides legal advisory and representation in environmental compliance, EIA approvals, environmental litigation, tribunal proceedings, and climate-related legal matters across Pakistan.
